The Meaning Behind the Sun Motif

For the main sun motif, I decided to divide it into quadrants because the number four appears often in my teachings: the Four Directions (North, South, East, West), the Four Sacred Medicines (tobacco, sweetgrass, sage, cedar), the four stages of life (infant, child, adult, elder), etc. I further divided the quadrants for style.

When I think about what the rising sun represents, I think of words like rebirth, renewal, rediscovery, and resilience. I chose to highlight the word "resilient" on the Resilient Sun T-Shirt because, despite all of the horrible things that have been done to Indigenous people to try to strip us of our culture and lives, we are still here and many of us are working to rediscover our traditions through art, language, and story.

But Pre&Peri isn't just a brand for Indigenous people, it is a brand for everyone. Anyone who is struggling with difficulties in their lives and chooses to move forward is demonstrating their resilience and can celebrate that with any product featuring our sun motif.
